Research under this theme encompasses various activities including deriving fibers and nanomaterials from natural sources, surface functionalization, composite preparation, and characterization of physical and chemical properties. One of our major focuses is on nanocellulose. We have the infrastructure and expertise to produce both forms of nanocellulose (cellulose nanocrystals and cellulose nanofibers). We prepare nanocellulose grafted with hydrophobic molecules, polymers, antimicrobial agents etc. for specific applications. We also work on blends and composites of biopolymers such as polylactic acid, polybutylene succinate, polycaprolactone, starch etc. for various applications.
