Reaching NCL

From airport:

You can take auto rickshaws or private taxis from the airport. For auto rickshaw, expect a ride from the airport to be about Rs. 250-300. Make sure, before you start, that the driver agrees to use the fare meter. If he doesn't, negotiate the price ahead of time. Often the driver will insist on extra money for luggage. The rickshaw fare can be calculated as follows: Fare = Rs. {(Meter reading) X 10 + 1}. Private taxis will charge as per the level of luxury. It typically takes forty minutes to an hour to reach NCL. In case, NCL has arranged a vehicle for your pick-up from the airport, then expect to see a driver (typically in white uniform) with a placard saying NCL. The NCL vehicle is typically parked in the Government parking lot on the left as you exit the airport.

From Pune Railway Station:

If you are reaching Pune by train from Mumbai and if the train has a scheduled stop at Shivajinagar Railway Station, then it is the nearest place (5 km) to get down otherwise, the train halts at Pune railway station (8 km). If you are reaching Pune from other parts of India then also you will have to get down at Pune station. In case, NCL has arranged a vehicle for your pick-up from the station, then the pick-up is typically at Pune Railway Station (and NOT Shivaji Nagar Station). Expect to see a driver (typically in white uniform) with a placard saying NCL waiting at the main exit from Platform No.1. The NCL car is typically parked in the Government parking area close to the main exit on the Platform No.1.

Auto rickshaws are available from the Railway station. Expect a ride from the Pune railway station to cost around Rs.100. Make sure, before you start, the driver agrees to use the fare meter. If he doesn't, negotiate the price ahead of time. Often the driver will insist on extra money for luggage. The rickshaw fare can be calculated as follows: Fare = Rs. {(Meter reading) X 10 + 1}. The Pune station rickshaw drivers can demand high fares especially when the traffic cops are not around. The rickshaw ride will take roughly 25-30 minutes. It is a straight road from the station to the University circle close to NCL. The local city buses heading towards NCL are also available outside the railway station if you exit from Platform No.1. Ask for the bus going to NDA. Fare is about Rs.20.

From Shivaji Nagar:

At Shivaji nagar, railway station and bus (State Transport) terminal are adjacent to each other. The rickshaw drivers at Shivaji Nagar station (this where most people arriving from Mumbai get down) are known to be the worst of the lot and charge exorbitant fares. The best option is to just walk out of the railway station/ bus terminal to the University Road (100m) and hire a rickshaw there. These rickshaws often agree to a fare as per the meter reading. Expect a ride from the Shivaji Nagar station to cost around Rs. 60. The rickshaw journey will take 15 minutes. The nearest local bus stop is "Simla Office" on the University Road at Shivaji Nagar. You can get several buses going towards NCL/ Pashan from there. The fare is about Rs. 10.

From Mumbai by Road:

Pune is now connected to Mumbai by a limited access six-lane toll expressway, which reduces the journey time by road to less than three hours. If you are driving from Mumbai, quit the expressway and take the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass. Please look for the Balewadi Sports Stadium on your right and the National Insurance Academy (NIA) campus on your left. Immediately after the NIA campus, take a left turn on Baner Road and drive ~ 5 kms. You can access NCL through a gate located on Baner Road, opposite Sindh Co-operative Housing Society. Check with the watchman on duty who will guide you to NCL Campus gate.
